Whilst Romania joined the European Union in 2006 it is \u003cstrong\u003ean East European country whose post-communist legacy persists;\u003c\/strong\u003e there's endemic \u003cstrong\u003ecorruption\u003c\/strong\u003e, Byzantine bureaucracy, fear of the Securtitate, a politicised administration and a problem with trust outside their strong families and networks. There's a \u003cstrong\u003emix of Latin and Slav \u003c\/strong\u003eand minorities who struggle, \u003cstrong\u003eHungarians and Roma\u003c\/strong\u003e being the largest. There's superstition and spirituality, a generation gap and strong differences between urban and rural Romanians. There's fatalism and a paradox in a lack of national pride together with \u003cstrong\u003enationalist feelings\u003c\/strong\u003e. \u003cstrong\u003eRomania engenders strong feelings \u003c\/strong\u003eabout the country and despite the ups and downs these foreigners are still there which speaks for the attraction of the country.
