As an adult, she experienced harassment as a woman in the workforce and medical misjudgments that caused permanent damage to her health. Her careers included skilled office jobs and farming, where she learned to plant and harvest crops, raise livestock, and preserve produce from her large garden.

She has co-authored six books, including non-fiction, poetry, and children's books. Her passions are quilting and photography.
